SPORTS: Pellegrini Insists He Has Faith in Joe Hart Despite Another Costly Mistake

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says he will keep faith with Joe Hart despite the goalkeeper continuing his run of costly mistakes.

Hart, who was expected to be dropped by Pellegrini, gifted Everton the opener during City’s 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium.

It followed on from errors against Bayern Munich in midweek and several other mistakes in recent weeks, but the City boss insists Hart is still his number one.

‘It was not a simple decision to keep Joe Hart in the team but I know that he needs all of our trust – the trust of me, the players and the fans,’ said Pellegrini.

‘I talked a lot with him after the match against Bayern – of course he feels he didn’t do well in the last game but today he showed his strong character.

The acid test of the confidence in Hart will come next week, with the goalkeeper set to link up with the England team for two crucial World Cup qualifiers.

Roy Hodgson was watching the 26-year-old against Everton and must now decide whether to stick with him for the games with Montenegro and Poland or ditch him.

Hodgson has hinted on Friday he would play Hart regardless of criticism, but Celtic goalkeeper Frazer Forster has impressed on Champions League duty and could come in.
