TECH: How To Use An Android Smartphone As Webcam For Computers

Most laptops these days come with HD webcams attached to it. However, there are still laptops, notebooks and desktop computers that do not have this very important feature. This hinders us from enjoying the full abilities of nice apps such as Skype and other very important video messengers.

Even though there are attachable webcams for sale, they surely can be used everywhere. Luckily for us, there is an app that turns our Android smartphones into easy-to-use webcams that can be used on the move.

How To Use An Android Smartphone As Webcam

2.  To use USB Webcam, first turn on USB Debugging on the Android phone. To do this, please open Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging.

3. Run USB Webcam on your phone and connect the phone to the system using a USB Cable. Run the USBWebcam client you already installed on your PC.

4. To use the webcam, open the software which you want to use it for( this may be Skype, a webcam software such as Cyberlink Youcam, Yahoo Messenger, etc). You should see a new webcam option in the settings of the app you want to use it for.

VERDICT: Quality of video may not be on par with that of a HD webcam but should be enough for basic webcam function. Rating: 7/10.

NOTE: There is no certainty that this might work on all Android devices but this was tested on Tecno P5 and Samsung Galaxy S3.
