Odemwingie scored after 58 minutes after turning Fabricio Coloccini inside out before unleashing a powerful low shot from the edge of the area that beat the Newcastle United goalkeeper, Tim Krul.
The goal which was the attacker’s first for the club in the league however represented scant consolation for the Bluebirds as they failed to find another goal to restore parity.
The Cardiff City Manager, Malky Mackay said Odemwingie’s goal was important as it gave his side the impetus to try and score a second.
“When (Peter) scored, I thought we would have scored another because we had great momentum and the crowd was lifted.
“We played against good players who punish you if you don’t play for the whole game.
“They are a good team, with an experienced manager with footballers with international experience,” Mackay said after the game.
Saturday’s goal represents Odemwingie’s second goal in all competitions for Cardiff following his move on transfer deadline day from West Bromwich Albion.
The forward scored late in the second half in City’s 2-3 loss to West Ham United at Upton Park as the Bluebirds crashed out of the Capital One Cup on September 23
