#9janinjaDotCom NEWS: Policeman Expects Burglary But Delivers Baby

A policeman who went to a house was expecting to deal with a burglary but when he arrived he found a woman in labour.

Officer Gene Kimpton said he entered the home in Carrollton, Texas, with his weapon drawn to respond to an unknown emergency.

In the property, a young boy pointed Officer Kimptom to the bathroom where his mother - who had apparently not realised she was pregnant - was giving birth.

The policeman helped deliver a baby boy and wrapped him in a towel until paramedics arrived and cut the umbilical cord.

He told CBS 11 News: "When I first approached the house I had my gun out.

"It was an unknown emergency. I was expecting a burglary in progress or something like that.

"I get the door open, and she is in the process of giving birth!"

The officer, who has 18 years of experience in the police and two children of his own, added: "I put gloves on and helped the baby out.

"Luckily a school resource officer got there and called paramedics and luckily they got there pretty quick.

"It was not what I was expecting in the least bit; but, it was an incredible experience helping a new life into this world."

Officer Kimpton said the mother did not panic, but she was definitely surprised by the birth.

"She indicated to one of the paramedics that she didn't realise that she was pregnant … at all," he said.

Mother and baby were taken to Baylor Medical Center at Carrollton following the delivery.

She declined to be interviewed but family members told CBS 11 News that she and her newborn were doing well.

"It was one of the best calls I've ever been on," said Officer Kimpton.

"Bringing a new life into the world:  it's probably going to be a one-time deal."
