ODD: Man Loses 40 Pounds, Gains A Six-pack And $50,000

In three months Matt Manning from Xenia, Ohio transformed by dropping 40 pounds, which led to a $50,000 grand prize win.

As reported by WDTN 2 News, Manning’s motivation to change stemmed from some developing health issues and the realization that he had stopped being active with his kids. “I had had a few health scares, where I passed out, had to go to the ER by ambulance. Then also had some chest pains like six months later and then my dad had to have a heart valve transplant. So that really woke me up,” said the 45-year-old father and engineer. He decided to enter a 12-week fitness competition called the ‘$100,000 Transformation Challenge’ held by fitness website Bodybuilding.com . One male and one female with the best body transformations would each win $50,000.

Manning took the challenge seriously and altered his lifestyle by incorporating healthier food choices, portioning meals, and adding exercise to his daily routine. He told the station that it wasn’t easy but he had the support of his wife and family. “They said I look like a superhero now (laughs) which is, when they saw the after pictures. My daughter saw the after pictures she’s like, ‘Man you look miserable. I’d be miserable too if I looked like that,” said Manning.

The hard work paid off. Bodybuilding.com representatives surprised him at his gym with a personal announcement that he was the 2014 winner and apparently presented him with the prize money in a gym bag full cash. The female winner, Robyn Koolen from Alberta, Canada was presented with an oversized check.

Manning encourages others who want to make a change in their body, giving the advice, “It has to come from within. You have to have that want to. It has to be internally driven. But then you can do things to build support around you.”

The contest winner attributes a big part of his transformation to his wife and said he’ll use the prize money to treat her.

ODD: Over 22 People Have Been Murdered By 19 Year Old Teenager

A woman charged with the murder of a man she and her husband lured to a meeting point after meeting him on Craigslist, has admitted to the murder and claimed she has killed over 20 other people.

Miranda Barbour, 19, of Pennsylvania said she killed at least 22 others across the US as part of her involvement in a Satanic cult.

Speaking to Pennsylvania’s Daily Item newspaper from jail, Barbour said: “When I hit 22, I stopped counting,” adding that she was coming clean now as she wanted to be honest.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Barbour and her newly-wed husband Elytte Barbour, 22, for the murder of Troy LaFerrara, 42, who they met through the classified advertisements website in November.

“When I hit 22, I stopped counting,” Miranda told the Sunbury, Pa. Daily Item in an interview from jail on Feb. 14. “I can pinpoint on a map where you can find them. I remember everything. It’s like watching a movie.” The teen killer says that her murders coincided with her joining a satanic cult based in Alaska at the age of 13.

Speaking of her first alleged kill, Miranda said the cult’s leader helped her pull the trigger and shoot and kill a man who owed the cult money. “And then from there I just continued to kill.”

The deranged killer, who has a young daughter from a past lover, claimed to have bodies buried across the country in California, North Carolina, Texas, and Alaska, where most of the alleged murders took place.

“I would lure these people in,” Miranda seemed to boast. “I studied them. I learned them and even became their friend.” She also added that these victims, “did bad things and didn’t deserve to be here anymore.” Sunbury police were reportedly already aware of Miranda’s claims, and they are looking into them with the help of investigators from other states, as well as the FBI.

“He said the wrong things and then things got out of control,” she said. “I can tell you he was not supposed to be stabbed. My husband was just supposed to strangle him.”

Mr LaFerrara had met Barbour after she agreed to have sex with him for $100. She picked him up from a mall while her husband hid in the back of the car. It was the couple's three week wedding anniversary.

Speaking to the Sunbury based newspaper by telephone after requesting the interview, Barbour said she was first involved in a murder at 13 after joining an Alaskan Satanic cult. The leader took her along to kill someone who owed him money, she claims.

“Then he said to me that it was my turn to shoot him,” she said. “I hate guns. I don’t use guns. I couldn’t do it, so he came behind me and he took his hands and put them on top of mine and we pulled the trigger. And then from there I just continued to kill.”

The majority of the killings happened in Alaska, but there were also murders in Texas, North Carolina and California, which she can “pinpoint on a map where you can find them”, she said.

Barbour told the newspaper she has no regrets for what she has done, adding that if she is released she “would do this again”.

Barbour's mother confirmed to the Daily Item that she had been sexually abused by her uncle at the age of four. He served a 14 year sentence.

Sunbury police chief Steve Mazzeo told Reuters that investigators had contacted the FBI and police in several other states in response to the claims. It is not clear if police have any evidence that might link Miranda Barbour to killings other than Mr LaFerrara's.

A woman looking through her boyfriend’s phone was shocked when she found a clip of him having sex with her Staffordshire bull terrier.

Wayne Bryson, from Louth, Lincolnshire, UK made no excuses when police arrested him after his girlfriend handed in the phone.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of performing an act of sexual penetration with a dog when he appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court last month.

The teenager will be sentenced on March 5, with the maximum he can receive being two years in jail.

He was given bail on the understanding he is not allowed to be alone with animals.

The 19-year-old said it was the first time he had ever had sex with a dog.

Rats of the future could grow to the size of sheep or even bigger as they evolve, experts have warned.

Super-adaptable rodents could take advantage of larger mammals becoming extinct.

In time, rats could grow to be the size of the capybara, the world’s largest rodent which can reach 80kg (12st).

‘Animals will evolve, over time, into whatever designs will enable them to survive and to produce offspring,’ said geologist Dr Jan Zalasiewicz, from the University of Leicester.

‘Given enough time, rats could probably grow to be at least as large as the capybara, the world’s largest rodent, that lives today [and] can reach 80kg.

‘If the ecospace was sufficiently empty, then they could get larger still.’

The largest extinct rodent known, Josephoartegasia monesi, which lived three million years ago, was larger than a bull and weighed over a ton.

A hint of the nightmare to come can be seen on ‘rat islands’ – isolated regions where rats introduced by humans have quickly risen to become the dominant species, according to Dr Zalasiewicz.

‘So there will be future thin rats, future fat rats, slow and heavy rats, fast and ferocious rats, probably future aquatic rats – the list goes on,’ he added.

However, another warns: ‘These are meant for adult humour only and not to be used to cause distress or tension.’

Mother-of-two Sarah Massey said she had turned her life around by regaining her confidence through a series of photoshoots posted online.

The 33-year-old, who wears size 10XL trousers and once cracked a toilet bowl by sitting on it, said: ‘Every day I get some kind of comment thrown at me, both good and bad – I used to be ashamed but now I hold my head high.

‘At school I was teased and called Dump Truck Butt by the other kids, but the condition is hereditary – there’s nothing I can do about it.’

She added: ‘I went through a stage of worrying what people think, but now I want to show the world I am proud to be me.’

Ms Massey, from Chicago in the US, said her weight has its downsides as she has to walk sideways through doorways and spends £400 a month on clothes, and she is now planning workout sessions to slim down.

‘I’m trying to make the most of what I’ve been given and being confident about who I am makes me happy,’ she said.

‘If I can inspire others to embrace their curves and be proud big, beautiful women, I would be very happy.’

ODD: Yemeni Father Ask For 1million Facebook Likes As Dowry For His Daughter

A man in Yemen has asked his daughter's suitor to gain a million Facebook 'Likes' in lieu of a dowry.

The BBC reports that Salem Ayash, who is a poet from Taiz, made the strange request partly to highlight the arguable absurdity of the customary dowry system in a country where few young people are able to afford them.

Asked why he was asking for Facebook likes instead of money, Ayash said simply: "No-one in Yemen can afford dowries anymore".

The Beeb's new 'Trending' column explains that dowries are often set so high that relatives or entire communities often have to club together to pay for them.

The story - which has been very popular on social media in Yemen, despite internet access being relatively patchy among its 25 million citizens - emerged last week, but the page has already received more than 29,000 'Likes'.

Some on the page have reportedly accused Ayash of seeking "fame" for his daughter rather than considering the needs of the young couple. But Ayash said that he simply wants his son-in-law-to-be to prove he can "work hard" ahead of the nuptials.

Xiao Wei's right hand was chopped off by a machine at work and salvaged by colleagues.

But doctors needed to keep it alive while they repaired his arm, which was also flattened in the accident. They decided to attach it to his left ankle to keep the blood flowing to it.

The doctors have finally attached the hand back to its rightful place.

CRAZY: Manchester United Fan Commits Suicide After Loss To Newcastle

A man believed to be a fan of Manchester United Football Club committed suicide Saturday night in Nairobi’s Pipeline estate after the team lost 1-0 to Newcastle.

Police said John Jimmy Macharia aged 23 jumped to his death from the 7th floor of a building he was after learning his team had lost in the Saturday evening match.

According to Nairobi County police chief Benson Kibue, Macharia told his friends he could not stand and watch the team beaten in a row before he leapt down dying on the spot.

“All witness accounts suggest he committed suicide because the team lost but officers are still talking to those who were with him as part of the investigations into the incident,” he said.

Man Jailed 10 Years For Defiling A Goat; Forced To Face The Goat In Court

A man found guilty of having s;ex with a goat has been jailed for 10 years when facing his victim in court.
Katana Kitsao Gona, 28, last week admitted sexually abusing the animal in the Kenyan city of Malindi.

The female goat watched quietly within the corner of the court space as her offender was jailed for the act.

He was caught once a neighborhood resident found him naked on a field having s;ex with the grazing goat, who was bound, reported The Star.

The goat’s owner was alerted and came to the scene with other residents who also witnessed Gona having sex with the animal.

He was arrested by the police and a medical test confirmed that the offence had taken place.

Gona told the court his spouse is disabled and depends on him but was however jailed for 10 years.

ODD: Group Files Lawsuit To Grant Chimpanzees 'Human Rights' (READ)

A U.S. animal rights group on Monday filed what it said is the first lawsuit seeking to establish the "legal personhood" of chimpanzees.

The non-profit Nonhuman Rights Project asked a New York state court to declare a 26-year-old chimp named Tommy "a cognitively complex autonomous legal person with the fundamental legal right not to be imprisoned."

The lawsuit seeks a declaration that Tommy's "detention" in a "small, dank, cement cage in a cavernous dark shed" in central New York is unlawful and demands his immediate release to a primate sanctuary.

Chimpanzees "possess complex cognitive abilities that are so strictly protected when they're found in human beings," Steven Wise, the president of Nonhuman Rights Project, told Reuters.

"There's no reason why they should not be protected when they're found in chimpanzees," he added.

The lawsuit on Tommy's behalf is among three the group is filing this week on behalf of four chimps across New York. The other chimps are Kiko, a 26-year-old chimp living on a private property in Niagara Falls, and Hercules and Leo, two young male chimps used in research at Stony Brook University on Long Island, the group said.

Tommy's owners, Patrick and Diane Lavery, and Stony university did not immediately return requests for comment. Kiko's owners could not be reached on Monday.

The Nonhuman Rights Project used its own research to find the chimps, and Wise first visited Tommy in October after reading a local newspaper article about exotic animals kept at the Laverys' used trailer lot in Gloversville, New York, about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Albany.

"He looked terrible," said Wise, who previously observed healthy, wild chimps in Uganda. "Hey looked like a caged chimpanzee - they don't move, they don't look at you. They look depressed."

The lawsuit states that chimps are entitled to a "fundamental right to bodily liberty," which Wise told Reuters is the basic right to be left alone and not held for entertainment or research.

The lawsuit was filed at "the earliest point at which we have some reasonable chance at winning," said Wise, a well-known animal rights activist and author of books including the 2000 title "Rattling the Cage: Toward Legal Rights for Animals."

"These are the first cases in an open-ended, strategic litigation campaign," he said. "We're just going to keep filing suits."

Nonhuman Rights Project in 2007 began a nationwide search for an optimal venue to file the lawsuits, Wise said. New York was ultimately chosen because of its generally flexible view of requests for a writ of habeas corpus, the centuries-old right in English law to challenge unlawful detention, he said.

David Favre, a professor at Michigan State University College of Law and an expert on animal law, said it is the first habeas petition filed on behalf of an animal.

"The focus here is whether a chimpanzee is a 'person' that has access to these laws," said Favre.

The lawsuits come as medical authorities re-examine the employment of chimpanzees in research in light of new technology that renders the use of chimpanzees less necessary.

In a decision applauded by animal rights groups, the U.S. National Institutes of Health in January said it was reducing its use of chimps in biomedical research, retiring most to sanctuaries. At the time, NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins called chimps "very special animals" that deserve "special consideration."

BIZARRE: Doctors Forget Surgical Gloves Inside Woman After Operation

Doctors left a surgical glove inside a mother who had a hysterectomy (surgical operation to remove part/all of the uterus).

The blunder meant Sharon Birks was crippled by stomach pains until she passed the glove on the toilet three days later.

‘I had this really bad stomach ache and it almost felt like something was wedged in my stomach,’ said the 42-year-old.

She was prescribed antibiotics after a bladder scan failed to spot the glove.

The Royal Derby Hospital has apologised for the error last month.

Sue James, chief executive of Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘We are extremely sorry for the distress that was caused to Mrs Birks. Clearly this should not have happened and we have launched a detailed investigation.

‘A consultant and a senior nurse saw Mrs Birks and her husband whilst they were still at the hospital to apologise in person and to inform them that a full investigation would take place.

‘I have also written to Mrs Birks to offer her sincere apologies for the distress and anxiety that such an unpleasant experience must have caused.’

WOW: Gold Bars Worth One Million Dollars Found In Airplane's Toilet

Cleaners working on an aircraft in India have found 24 gold bars worth more than $1m (£620,000) stuffed into a toilet compartment, officials have said.

The plane, belonging to Jet Airways, was being cleaned at Kolkata airport on Tuesday after a trip from the eastern city of Patna.

It had previously been flying on international routes.

Airport director BP Mishra said the 1kg bars were found inside two bags that were left in the toilets of the plane.

An airport official added: "They have not been claimed by anyone. No arrest has been made as yet."

ODD: Brazilian Model Auctions Off Her Virginity, Values It At 930 Thousand Pounds

A Brazilian model has announced plans to auction off her virginity to the highest bidder – for a second time.

Catarina Migliorini, 21, became famous around the world last year when she struck a deal to sell her virginity to a Japanese millionaire, only known as Natsu, for £480,000.

But the physical education student now claims she never received the money and insists they never had sex.

She also accused Australian filmmaker Justin Sisely of faking the auction as part of a publicity for his documentary Virgins Wanted.

Discussing her decision to auction her virginity for a second time, Ms Migliorini said she hopes to receive a bid of at least £930,000 through her website VirginsWanted2.com.

‘After being featured by so many media outlets in so many countries, I decided to actually auction off my virginity,’ she told the Huffington Post.

A total of 15 bids were submitted in the original auction, with ‘Natsu’ seeing off a rival bid from Indian millionaire Rudra Chatterjee.

Ms Migliorini said she would give 90 per cent of the winning bid from the first auction to charity redevelopment projects in her home state of Santa Catarina.

‘If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer,’ she added.

ODD BUT TRUE: Pope Francis Admits He Is A Sinner, Goes To Confession Every Two Weeks

Pope Francis has told Catholic believers he goes to confession at least every two weeks because he too is "a sinner".

He made the remarks at his weekly general audience in St Peter's Square, reports the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano. "Priests, too, need confession, even bishops. We are all sinners. Even the Pope goes to confession every two weeks because the Pope, too, is a sinner," he told the assembled flock. "My confessor hears what I say, offers me advice and forgives me."

The paper says Pope Francis, who leads the world's 1.2 billion Roman Catholics, was reminding his audience of the importance of the sacrament of reconciliation and of the role of a priest in administering it. The Vatican newspaper does not mention who the Pope's confessor is, nor what his penance might involve.
