Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted he is ‘not obsessed’ with winning the Ballon d’Or just hours after reports suggested he could boycott the awards ceremony.
Speculation last night hinted the Real Madrid man may miss January’s presentation of the trophy after falling out with Fifa president Sepp Blatter.
And Ronaldo has added fuel to the fire by refusing to dismiss the rumours, instead suggesting he is not concerned with winning the award.
‘I don’t think a lot about the Ballon d’Or. I know that it is handed out in January, but I cannot say that I will not go,’ said the 28-year-old.
‘I prefer to not say anything because things don’t depend solely on me. I am not obsessed with the Ballon d’Or. We will see what happens.’
The Ballon d’Or has been won by Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for the past four years, but Ronaldo is the hot favourite this time around, with his adversary currently sidelined through injury.
Ronaldo also boosted his claim for the trophy on Tuesday night, when his stunning hat-trick helped Portugal past Sweden to qualify for next summer’s World Cup.
