BREAKING: Olusegun Obasanjo Finally Dumps PDP, Decamps To APC

When OluFamous reported last last year that President Olusegun Obasanjo is tired of the PDP just like many Nigerians are, some didn't believe. But alas! the deed is done and Baba Iyabo is out of PDP:

At a time we had thought that the season of controversy-stirring letters among political players, particularly key leaders in the country, is over, another bombshell has been released. And it comes from Obasanjo.
The latest letter is not, as many may have expected, to the incumbent, President Goodluck Jonathan, but to Alhaji Bamanga Tukur the chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to which he belongs. According to reliable sources, in the one-page letter written on Thursday, a copy of which was sent to the president, Obasanjo declared that he would cease to be a member of the party or participate in any political activities at any level.
His decision is hinged on what he described as the handing over of the authority of PD, in the South-West, and particularly, his home state, Ogun, to the chairman of PDP South West Mobilisation and Organisation Committee, Buruji Kashamu.

Declaring Kashamu as unfit for any leadership post in the party, he described him as a drug baron who has cases to answer in the United States of America. The sources said the former president said with such a person as Kashamu in the leadership position of the party, he had no choice but to opt.

To buttress his point, Obasanjo was said to have attached some documents to prove his claim that Kashamu is indeed a drug baron.

For now, it appears Obasanjo is happy with the APC due to the way its governor is developing Ogun State.

Same Love? Nigerian Lawmakers Pass Bill To Place Ban On Same Sex Marriage

Poll: By 2-to-1 Illinois Catholic Voters Back Same Sex Marriage

Well talk about a country getting its priorities wrong. According to new reports, Nigerian Law Makers have passed as bill that will give at least 10 years imprisonment to same sex marriage. I don't even know how this is reasonable when there are other problems in  the country the government ought to tackle, starting with the justice system for example. Anyway the bill is to be passed in to Law soon, though has not been signed by President Goodluck Jonathan these are its contents

The new bill states:
1. A marriage contract or civil union entered into between persons of same sex by virtue a certificate issued by a foreign country shall be void in Nigeria.
2. Marriage or civil union entered into between persons of same sex shall not be solemnized in any place of worship either Church or Mosque or any other place whatsoever called in Nigeria.
3. Only marriage contracted between a man and a woman either under Islamic Law, Customary Law or the Marriage Act is recognized as valid in Nigeria.
4. Persons that entered into a same sex marriage or civil union contract commit an offense and are jointly liable on conviction to a term of 14 years imprisonment each.
5. Any persons or group of persons that administers, witnesses, screens, abet and aids the solemnization of a same sex marriage contract or civil union or supports the registration, operation of gay clubs, societies and organizations, processions or meetings in Nigeria commits an offense and liable on conviction to a term of 10 years imprisonmen

Senator Yerima Divorces 17 year Old Wife, To Re-Marry 14 year Old.

Former governor of Zamfara state, Senator Ahmed Yerima, a popular man for unpopular reasons was in the news few months ago,for all the wrong reasons when he tried to get signed into law a bill that  allowed adult male men to marry girls as young as 13.

Nigerians trouped out in their numbers to criticize and condemn the action. There was even a CNN interview where Senator Yerima was placed on the spot to defend his ridiculous values also to question his marriage to a 13 year old Egyptian girl Maria, four years ago, and yet he could not give an plausible explanation to support his cause.

The Senator, according to reports has now divorced 17 year old Maria who has one child for him and  pulled another young girl out of Egypt for marriage. This new child-bride is just 14.

North Korean Dictatorial Leader Kim Jong-un Executes Own Uncle

In this world of politics, there are people i label modern day villains. I think number one on my list for now is North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un. The young military ruler just only recently executed his own uncle on the trial of treason. The executed uncle Jang Song Thaek  was allegedly accused of wanting to overthrow Jong's regime.

Before now Jang Song Thaek, who is married to Jong's aunty had been a legal adviser to Jong, and was even labeled the second most powerful man in North Korea. The man served as the vice-chairman of the country's major military body for years.

Jang was removed from his position in government on Sunday and was executed immediately after his trial where he was found guilty and charged with treason.

World Leaders, South Africa Converge To Honour Late Mandela

Celebrities and dignitaries gather for Nelson Mandela …
World leaders and joyous, singing South Africans honored Nelson Mandela on Tuesday at a rainy Soweto soccer stadium where U.S. President Barack Obama praised him as a "giant of history" and the last great liberator of the 20th century.

"Over thirty years ago, while still a student, I learned of Mandela and the struggles in this land. It stirred something in me. It woke me up to my responsibilities — to others, and to myself — and set me on an improbable journey that finds me here today." said Obama, who like Mandela became the first black president of his country. Those in the stadium gave roars of approval to Obama's speech.
South African President Jacob Zuma, however, was booed. Many South Africans are unhappy with Zuma because of state corruption scandals, though his ruling African National Congress, once led by Mandela, remains the front-runner ahead of elections next year.
Amid heavy rains, crowds came to FNB Stadium in Soweto, the Johannesburg township that was a stronghold of support for the anti-apartheid struggle that Mandela embodied as a prisoner of white rule for 27 years and then during a peril-fraught transition to the all-race elections that made him president. But the weather and public transportation problems rain kept many people away. The 95,000-capacity stadium was only two-thirds full.
Some of the dozens of trains reserved to ferry people to the stadium were delayed due to a power failure. A Metrorail services spokeswoman, Lilian Mofokeng, said more than 30,000 mourners were successfully transported by train.
The mood was celebratory. A dazzling mix of royalty, statesmen and celebrities was in attendance.
As Obama walked to the podium, he and Cuban President Raul Castro shook hands.
Thabo Mbeki, the former South African president who succeeded Mandela, got a rousing cheer as he entered the stands. French President Francois Hollande and his predecessor and rival, Nicolas Sarkozy, arrived together. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon waved and bowed to spectators who sang praise for Mandela, seen by many South Africans as the father of the nation.
"I would not have the life I have today if it was not for him," said Matlhogonolo Mothoagae, a postgraduate marketing student who arrived hours before the stadium gates opened. "He was jailed so we could have our freedom."
Rohan Laird, the 54-year-old CEO of a health insurance company, said in the stadium that he grew up during white rule in a "privileged position" as a white South African and that Mandela helped whites work through a burden of guilt.
"His reconciliation allowed whites to be released themselves," Lair said. "I honestly don't think the world will see another leader like Nelson Mandela."
Workers were still welding at a VIP area as the first spectators arrived amid an enormous logistical challenge of organizing the memorial for Mandela, who died Dec. 5 in his Johannesburg home at the age of 95.
Mandela's widow, Graca Machel, and former wife Winnie Madikizela-Mandela were at the stadium, and gave each other a long hug before the ceremonies began. So were actress Charlize Theron, model Naomi Campbell and singer Bono.
Tuesday was the 20th anniversary of the day when Mandela and South Africa's last apartheid-era president, F.W. de Klerk, received the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to bring peace to their country. De Klerk, a political rival who became friends with Mandela, was also in the stadium.
Mandela said in his Nobel acceptance speech at the time: "We live with the hope that as she battles to remake herself, South Africa will be like a microcosm of the new world that is striving to be born."
The sounds of horns and cheering filled the stadium. The rain, seen as a blessing among South Africa's majority black population, enthused the crowd.

"In our culture the rain is a blessing," said Harry Tshabalala, a driver for the justice ministry. "Only great, great people are memorialized with it. Rain is life. This is perfect weather for us on this occasion."
People blew on vuvuzelas, the plastic horn that was widely used during the World Cup soccer tournament in 2010, and sang songs from the era of the anti-apartheid struggle decades ago.
"It is a moment of sadness celebrated by song and dance, which is what we South Africans do," said Xolisa Madywabe, CEO of a South African investment firm.
The soccer venue was also the spot where Mandela made his last public appearance at the closing ceremony of the World Cup. After the memorial, his body will lie in state for three days at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, once the seat of white power, before burial Sunday in his rural childhood village of Qunu in Eastern Cape Province.
Police promised tight security, locking down roads kilometers (miles) around the stadium. However, the first crowds entered the stadium without being searched.
John Allen, a 48-year-old pastor from the U.S. state of Arkansas, said he once met Mandela at a shopping center in South Africa with his sons.
"He joked with my youngest and asked if he had voted for Bill Clinton," Allen said. "He just zeroed in on my 8-year-old for the three to five minutes we talked."

"We Are Winning War Against Terror" - President Jonathan

The President reviewed yesterday the battle against terrorism and declared that it is being won.
Dr. Jonathan spoke at the Standing Committee meeting of the Bishops Conference of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) at the Saint Peter's Deanery, Yenagoa, capital of his home Bayelsa State.
He said his methods had improved security generally.
"Already, as a result of our ongoing action and methods, the security situation in the country is steadily improving. Again, the effect of the state of emergency in the Northeast has been tremendous and felt by all.
"From a society that was coping with uncertainty, we are now beginning to see a gradual return to normalcy in most part of the North and other parts of the country with different levels of certainty and predictability in our daily lives.
"I believe and I can say with all humility and gratitude to God that we are winning the war against terrorism. And by His grace, we will surely overcome terrorism and insecurity in our land," the President told the clerics, who are praying for the release from captivity of Archbishop Ignatius Kattey of the Niger Delta Province. He was abducted last week.
The President assured them that the ArchBishop would soon be released.
Dr. Jonathn said: "More than winning the war, we are also winning space for peace and stability - the daily routine of worship, businesses, farming, schooling, social networking.
"We are a society of peace. No religion or culture preaches violence and mindless killing. The sorrow, blood and tears you have seen lately are not hallmarks of our country or any civilised society.
"We will continue to do our very best to ensure that all Nigerians will be able to live in peace in one strong, united and indivisible nation."
The President also inaugurated the Anglican Church cable Network Nigeria (ACNN) at the meeting.
Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson urged the Church to pray for the leaders and the nation.
He, particularly, urged them to pray for the President, saying that Jonathan had remained steadfast in his resolve to transform the country, despite many challenges.
"At a time when brothers have turned against brothers, the leaders of this country need prayers. Mr. President needs prayers. Continue to pray for the peace and stability of this country.
"We are living in trying times and one man in the midst of all these distractions, Mr. President is doing his best to give the country profound leadership", he said.
Dickson praised the church for organising the event in the state, which he said was a testimony that peace and security had returned to Bayelsa.
He said his administration would continue to invest in protection of lives and property.
No fewer than 20 gunmen carrying sophisticated equipment including rocket-propelled grenades and improvised explosive devices, overpowered policemen on duty as they invaded a police station on Wednesday in Yola, Adamawa State.
Three policemen were killed and two others were wounded after the attack.
The attackers burnt down the police station. A police van was also burnt in another attack in Lale, in Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
Adamawa state police spokesperson Mohammed Ibrahim said yesterday that the no civilian casualties were reported.
Eyewitness said the attackers started shooting to scare people as they engaged the policemen on duty.
The Police said the gunmen escaped. Boko Haram has not accepted responsibility for the attack but the sect is strongly suspected to have carried out the attack.

Respect Your Age Or Else I Will Open Up On You - Farida Waziri Replies Obasanjo

Recently, For President Olusegun Obasanjo Said Farida Waziri In EFCC was a mistake but Mrs Waziri didnt find it funny and has replied Obasanjo with this; “I will like to warn that those who live in glass house don’t throw stones and as such Obasanjo should not allow me open up on him. Respectable elder statesmen act and speak with decorum.” She also accused him of manipulating the EFCC under Nuhu Ribadu to hunt political opponents in Mr. Obasanjo’s effort to secure a third term in office.

She also expressed surprise that a man who has been twice a Nigerian  leader would “descend so low to peddle falsehood,” Waziri warned Obasanjo to respect his age or else she would  “open up on him.”

Nigerian Senators Earn More Than President Barack Obama And David Cameron

A Nigerian senator earns more in Salary than Barack Obama of the US and David Cameron of the UK. I'll leave you to tell how much Nigerian president goes home with at the end of each month. An Indian lawmaker must work for at least 49 years to earn the annual salary of a Nigerian senator.
In the United States, while the minimum wage is $1,257 (N191, 667), a US lawmaker earns $15,080 (N2.3m) per month. In the United Kingdom, a lawmaker earns $8,686(N1.3m) monthly while the gross national minimum wage is $1,883 (N283, 333) per month. Also, Nigerian lawmakers earn higher than their counterparts in Sweden. With a monthly pay of $7,707 (N1.2m), a lawmaker in Sweden will need to work for over 12 years to equal what a Nigerian senator earn per annum.
The president of the United States takes home an anual salary of $400,000 (N64.156,0m), including a $50,000 expense allowance making the president the highest paid public servant in the US. The $400,000 includes everything and $350,000 out of it is taxable.

Motor Vehicle Allowance: 400% of BS = N9,936,982.00

Total per month = N29, 479, 749.00

A senator's anual salary   = over N182 million multiply by 109 senators (don't forget the House of rep, ministers, ambassadors,  ...)

In addition to the regular and legitimate salaries and allowances of over N17 million ($113,333) and N14.99 million ($99,933) which senators and reps were collecting yearly and the irregular allowance of estacodes, duty tours etc, they were also collecting over N192m ($1.28m) and N140m ($0.93m) respectively in illicit quarterly allocation which is not provided for by RMAFC.
Effectively, a Nigerian senator was taking home at least $1.40m ($1.28m quarterly allocations + $0.113m regular salaries and allowances) as against the $0.174m an American senator takes home hence a Nigeria senator earns at least 8 times as much as an American senator and more than 3 times the American president.
Whereas a Senator in the U.S earns N21, 146,000, the same as a member of the House of Representatives; a UK Member of Parliament earn £64,766 (N14, 896,180)
In other words, a Federal Legislator in Nigeria is paid more than double what a Member of British Parliament earns per annum.
Senator David Mark alone takes N250 million quarterly or N83.33 million per month. Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu gets N150 million per quarter or N50 million a month.
Mark and Ekweremadu earns in 4 months, six times what the UK Prime Minister earns in a year. David Cameron goes home with £190,000 per anum (N43, 700,000)
In a newspaper news article entitled ‘An Assembly for looting’ written by Musikilu Mojeed with Elor Nkereuwem, the authors rightly claimed that each of the 360 members of the House of Representatives were getting N35 million in cash money in quarterly allocation while each of the 109 Senators pockets N48 million each. These allocations have however been slashed by 20% to N27 million ($180,000) and N38 million ($253,333) respectively due to the 20% reduction requested by the late president.

Please tell me, how do we expect this banana republican hell fire to become a country tomorrow.
Do you still ask why Nigerian politics is a do or die affair?

President Jonathan Is A Weak Ruler & Incapable As A Leader – Asari Dokubo

he President of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahedeen Asari- Dokubo, once again took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan, stating that the Nigerian leader is a disappointment to the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

Asari-Dokubo said Jonathan is weak and unassertive as a leader.

More..
The ex-militant commander, who was reacting to the latest crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which has led to the factionalisation of the ruling party, lamented that Jonathan could not take bold and courageous steps to tame the dissidents.

Asari-Dokubo, who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent, regretted that Jonathan could not act like a typical Ijaw man, who is famous for boldness and exceptional courage.

He asked the President to be guided by an Ijaw famous saying, “Ama Doko Doko Biokpo,” which he interpreted to mean “small, small towns but they are very courageous and keep hope alive.”

Asari-Dokubo said he was unimpressed by “what he called poor response” to the crisis rocking the PDP by the Presidency and advised Jonathan to emulate former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who confronted and dealt with the dissidents in the party during his tenure.

He recalled how Obasanjo allegedly wielded power to quench the insurgency led by a former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, within the PDP, against his re-election in 2003.

To this end, he asked Jonathan to stop further peace talks and negotiation with the dissidents governors and their collaborators, including Obasanjo and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

He said Jonathan only needed to sit up and demonstrate uncommon courage to subdue his political enemies, adding that the crisis was orchestrated to frustrate his second term ambition.

Asari-Dokubo decried the recent statement credited to Abubakar Gumi that the killings in the North would stop as soon as Jonathan renounced his second term bid, adding that the cleric and his co-travellers were cashing in on the weakness of the President.

He nonetheless expressed the conviction that the plot against Jonathan would fail.

He said: “Jonathan is disgracing the Ijaw people and people of the South-South by negotiating with these dissidents. I am terribly annoyed by the way he is handling this issue, he is a disgrace. If he cannot withstand them he should tell us because there is no basis for negotiation.

“This is the time for Jonathan to act like an Ijaw man and he should stop disgracing us.

“Jonathan should hit them and he should tell us if he cannot hit them so that we can help him to hit them mercilessly. I have the potential to hit them hard. It is on record that I once held Nigeria hostage and Nigeria could not produce oil for 48 hours and my activities forced the prices of crude oil globally to rise by $30 one day. It was unprecedented and I can repeat it.

“The plot against Jonathan will surely fail but the President should be decisive with these people once and for all. Jonathan should assert himself as President and put these people where they should be. Obasanjo, who is leading these people did two terms and he plotted a third term.

“There should be no negotiation with dissidents. It should be total war, no retreat, no surrender and let us see who will run first. There is time for peace and there is time for war. This is the time to go into war.

“Jonathan should know that this is the time for war and if he cannot sustain the war, we will help him to sustain it. How many governors attempted to frustrate Obasanjo? Ibori and others were united behind Atiku Abubakar to frustrate Obasanjo and they failed because Obasanjo was strong, assertive, decisive and courageous.

“Jonathan should be strong to deal with them but whether he is strong or not, we are ready to support and stand by him. It is not a one-man battle but a total war and they must be totally vanquished.”

Besides, Asari-Dokubo asked Jonathan to hand over the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to the ex-fighters in the Niger Delta for a decisive action.

On Amaechi, he said, “Let the security men step aside and let us see how Amaechi can come to Rivers State. Amaechi should not be protected because he has betrayed the collective interest of the Niger Delta.

“Jonathan should be decisive and look at the other way and allow us to stand on the streets for 24 hours and we will see whether this madness by Amaechi will not end.”

Things Fall Apart Between Obasanjo and Jonathan

There were strong indications on Wednesday night that President Goodluck Jonathan may call the bluff of the aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and contest in 2015.

It was learnt that top forces in the Presidency are viewing with suspicion the peace moves by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo because the aggrieved governors are seen as Obasanjo's “die-hard” loyalists.

The peace meeting called by the ex-President is scheduled for Friday in Abuja but Jonathan, who reportedly got angry at a meeting with 10 PDP governors loyal to him on Tuesday night, asked them not to lose sleep over the antics of the Akitu group.
.
A source, who spoke with NATION, said: “The President, after going through some security reports on the crisis, got angry and told the governors, ‘we will not lose sleep. Those who ignited the fire should go and quench it’.

“I think the Presidency may damn the consequences. The next few weeks might be for dirty politics. There is a likelihood of tit-for-tat politics.”

Obasanjo and the governors are trying to prevent Jonathan from contesting in 2015 because they believe he has not performed, but an aide to Jonathan said he has performed and must contest in 2015.

Anambra APC Merger Crisis Gets Worse : ANPP, CPC Pulls Out

All Progressives Congress
The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Anambra State have pulled out of the All Progressive Congress(APC) merger ahead of  Nov. 16 governorship election in the state.

Mr Mike Igwilo, State Secretary of defunct ANPP, made this known to newsmen in Awka on Thursday.

Igwilo said the party was pulling out because it was not consulted in all the activities leading to the merger and the recent primaries in the state that produced Sen. Chris Ngige as the flag bearer.

“We are marginalised in the party and not carried along. For this reason, we find it difficult to explain the merger to our supporters who now float like sheep without shepherd,” he said.

Igwilo said that ANPP would make public its next plan of action before the end of September.

At a separate news conference, Mr Chuba Ikeagwu, the state Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) told newsmen that the party had joined the newly formed People's Democratic Movement (PDM).

He said the APC did not give a level playing ground for other merging political parties to compete for the governorship ticket in the primaries alleging that only the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) controlled the party machinery in the state.

``There is no equity in the sharing of positions, ACN dominated and took everything,’’ Ikeagwu alleged. (NAN)

APGA May Not Contest Anambra Governorship Elections

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) may affect its participation in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State despite the emergence of Dr. Willy Obiano as the party’s candidate, a chieftain of the party has warned.

In a statement on Tuesday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Bernerd Akoma said Dr. Obiano could be disqualified as the party’s candidate in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra if the National Chairman and Secretary of the party, Victor Umeh and Sanni Shinkaffi respectively endorse his candidature.
The statement reads, “Despite the emergence of Dr. Obiano as the Victor Umeh/Peter Obi led APGA candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State, the party may afterall not contest the governorship race in the state.
“The sharp division in the party notwithstanding should Umeh-led APGA faction goes ahead to endorse any candidate for the election, such candidate stands to be disqualified if his candidature is challenged in any court of law.
“APGA constitution states that a person is entitled to occupy any position in the party for a maximum of two tenures of four years each. The current national secretary of APGA, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi was elected the secretary of the party January, 10, 2003. By August 2013, Shinkafi will be spending his 10th year and seven months in the same position as the secretary of the party”, Akoma said.

2015: APC Pledges Accelerated National Economic Growth If Elected

The Interim National Women Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Sharon Ikeazor, on Thursday pledged the party’s readiness to accelerate national economic growth, if voted in 2015.

Ikeazor told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the party had planned to ensure integrated transport network as well as accelerate power supply to boost rural and urban products toward national development.
