Steady Power Supply To All Parts Of Nigeria Is Achievable - Power Minister

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has said that the task of providing steady power supply to all parts of Nigeria is achievable.

The minister, who said this in Abuja on Tuesday when he inaugurated the management team of Electricity Management Services (EMS), said EMS was one of the successor companies to PHCN.

He said EMS was established by the Electricity Power Sector Reform Act of 2005 to provide specialised services to the power sector.

“It is important to note that the task of lighting up the whole of Nigeria is achievable.”

“The establishment of EMS is informed by the need to have a professional and technical agency of government at this crucial stage of the power sector reform.”

“It will close up technical gaps which might have been created.”

“EMS will take over the responsibilities of some non-core professional and subsidiary services of the defunct PHCN and its successor companies,” he said.

The minister said that the mandates of the 10-man team include: provision of ancillary and support services to the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), to sustain and improve power delivery.

The team is also to ensure quality and standardisation of materials, equipment and machines used for electricity generation and distribution.

Nebo urged the team to reposition the EMS into ‘a technically efficient and financially efficient, sustainable, and commercially viable company.’

Responding, the Managing Director of EMS, Mr Peter Ewesor, pledged the commitment of the team to the task ahead, adding that they would not betray the confidence reposed in them.

He promised that the team would execute the mandate of EMS diligently within the power sector reform agenda.

“We will reposition EMS into a world class commercially viable organisation, to provide the needed services to drive, support and sustain the emerging private sector-led electricity industry in Nigeria,” he said.
