SPORTS: Nigeria Drops To 36th In Latest FIFA Rankings Despite Good Run

The Super Eagles Of Nigeria have dropped three place to the 36th position from the 33rd they were last month in the latest FIFA Rankings released today 28th, November 2013.

Rankings of The Top 5 African teams

This was despite a very good run for the Nigerian national team. The Eagles qualified for the World Cup few weeks ago after conveniently easing out their Ethopian counterparts and following it up with a well-played draw with the Azurris of Italy some days after.

The drop is likely because of the 1-0 loss to Jordan by the home-based Eagles during an international friendly recently.

The top 5 African teams according to the new rankings are:

  1. Cote D'Ivoire (918pts, 17th in the world)
  2. Ghana (849pts, 24th in the world)
  3. Algeria (800pts, 26th in the world)
  4. Nigeria (710pts, 36th in the world)
  5. Egypt (699pts, 38th in the world)

The new FIFA Rankings will be used for seeding in the upcoming World Cup grouping and we wait to see how this new ranking will affect the Super Eagles chances.

Guinness Fulfils $2,000 Promise To Super Eagles As The Team Moves To Final Round

Our dear Super Eagles yesterday triumphed over the Flames of Malawi in Calabar a 2 – 0 victory match. The match was witnessed by hundreds of eager Nigerian fans who came out in masses to support the team in their quest for victory.

With this win, the Eagles have secured a place in the final round of the 2014 World cup qualifier stage. As promised before the match, Guinness, Nigeria’s number one premium beer was on hand to support the team with their $2,000 per goal offer to ensure the team was gingered to win the match, which became evident in the 2 – 0 margin.

At the end of the match, a cheque of $2,000 each was presented to Victor Moses and Emmanuel Emenike in fulfilment of the Guinness promise. Guinness also ensured that Nigerians nationwide were not left out in the action as they sponsored the broadcast of the match live on AIT network, I also watched it; thanks to Guinness.

Fans in Calabar had a fantastic time at the stadium as Guinness ensured an endless supply of free drinks to keep everyone motivated and ensure the Eagles had the support they needed to triumph. Well, I was lucky enough to get some pictures from the match in Calabar and here they are.

Congratulations to the Super Eagles as they move into the final round, we pray for the World cup and to Guinness we say keep the flag flying!
