Not many people would leave a cushy job where they earned almost N10m per annum in a multinational manufacturing firm quoted on the Nigerian Stock exchange for the uncertainty of entertainment and show business. But not many people are like Uwanma Odefa. This enigmatic lady set aside a 10-year successful career in Human Resources to follow her dream of becoming a talk show host and entertainer. Madness or guts?
She calls it smartly calculated risk-taking and we agree because since quitting her job March 2013, a year later she has achieved what many who have been in the industry for years are yet to attain. She has featured in a high profile TV drama series on MNet (The Johnsons), played a major role in The Matchmaker (an MNet Movie production) and was 2nd runner-up in the just concluded Next Movie Star Africa where she went head-to-head with the best of Africa's talents. She obviously has the talent to go far.
She writes in her online diary www.uwanma.com (the first of its kind from a Nigerian) where friends and fans can keep up with her life and her activities which includes her volunteer work for various charities like The Down Syndrome Foundation.
Her current project set to kick off in a couple of days is a radio talk show called August Meeting with Uwanma on Inspiration FM 92.3 every Wednesday at 5:00pm to 5:30pm. It's definitely something you would want to listen to.
This is a name and face to look out for because it appears there is no stopping this young lady.
