TECH: How To Speed Up Your Computer's Boot Time Without Using Any Software

Most programs set themselves to be loaded immediately we boot up thereby slowing down the time a computer uses to boot. Luckily for us, Windows has provided an option to select the programs that will be allowed to launch at boot time.

HOW TO REDUCE WINDOW’s BOOT TIME 

1. Click the Start button, and type 'msconfig' without quotes.

2. A dialog as shown below will pop up.

3. Click on Startup. This will show you the applications set to startup when the computer boots. 
4. To reduce the boot time, uncheck all unnecessary applications and leave only the necessary applications such as antivirus.

5. Click on Apply and then OK. To save immediately, select Restart. To continue with whatever you were doing and save the settings on the next shutdown, click Exit without Restart.

NOTE: Screenshots in this tutorial are from a computer running Windows 7 Professional. The steps also work on Windows 8.

VERDICT: This procedure reduced the boot time of my Windows 7 Computer from 15seconds to 9 seconds. Please don’t uncheck necessary applications such as the Antivirus so as to not leave your computer prone to viruses at startup.
